This blog has been falling by the way side as of late and I think its in the need of a revival! Not sure what that exactly means yet but we are all gonna begin working on it. Id love to get more peoples writing involved to give some more variety to the content. Also thinking maybe getting some themes going every week and maybe include some competitions! I think it would be pretty awesome too if we could bring PopCraft into the real world and maybe holding a craft exhibition or Fair of sorts. Id love to hear any ideas that anyone may have so leave in the comments below!

In other news I came across this great glass artist today called Paula Hayes. She uses her unique pieces to create beautiful terrariums which happens to be my new love of the moment. They are so simple and involve no strenuous care but give great impact.

Hey hey pop-crafters! greetings from the west coast of the u.s. of a!

First off, we've discovered the epic old school paper press oblation papers and press in Porland Oregon that makes its own paper and designs its own line of stationary/ paper products. Like many of the craft businesses in Portland it started off on a wing and surprised itself in its successes. To be honsest the web page doesnt do it huge justice, the amount of colours and textures that hit you coming in the door is incredible.. you can even use the vintage printing press to print your own cards for free on the first thursday of the month! where you'll also get free wine and oreos! happy out!

Art exhibition-wise, etsy fave Emily Martin aka the black apple put together an impressive collection of carnival themed portraits in the land gallery (also in Portland Oregon- super artzy city) The paintings have a victorian feel, softened by a doll-esque style. I love them!

Shoshona Snow Ceramics

This is the work of Shoshona Snow. Her ceramic work I think is so unique with its poppy bright colours contrasting with the harsh black and white. She makes many different types of work form handmade little animals to thrown vases. I love the way they all have the same decorative style linking them all together.

I also have a serious studio envy. Jealous!

HandCrafty Christmas Tradition

Gingerbread houses are a tradition not so big in Ireland but i really think they should be..Im most definitely gonna bring this tradition to my house next year..looks so fun and i do enjoy crafts that you can eat after wards:)

Here are some wonderful plates from Brooklyn ceramicist Sarah chihat. Sarah scrummages around second hand shops and gathers all the plates and dishware she can find. she rehabilitates these plates by reglazing them with bright colours and stark silhouettes. her plates are sourced from various locations, and re-decorated differently each time, making every plate unique. a tall order for most crafts people today. be sure too check out her website http://sarahcihat.com/.

Get you craft fix!

So when there isnt a local craft fair on, where is there to buy or even sell handmade?..Well the answer is the Internet!..there are so many graet sight where you can purchase anything for handmade bags and clothes to handmade soap. I have chosen 3 of my favourites to post here:

The first is a new one I just came cross called Misi which I am new to and havent had too much experience of it yet...It seems to hold more of the traditional crafts that you would fond in local fairs.
The next is the oh so popular Etsy which has the same kind of layout as Misi but has alot more going on to look at and amazing ways to find thing(shop by colour is a personal favourite)..As well as the amazing items that can be purchases with many professional makers on there is also a great community wthin it with chat rooms, forums and a frequently updated blog.
Finally there is the more edgy one: Renegade Handmade...This is slightly different to the other two in the way that not just anybody can sell on this..to sell you have to contact them or be contacted by the people who run the site so the there may not be as many items as the others but the items that are there are top quality and AMAZING!!can you tell if i like it:P

Check out these amazing creations from jeniffer strunge, she's been making creatures like these since 2004, each one is made from recycled dresses and fabric, jenniffers a one woman sweatshop and makes all of her monsters by hand herself.

"each Cotton Monster is a little (or big) work of art made from recycled clothing and linens without a pattern, so no two will ever be exactly alike. In fact I make an attempt to make each cotton monster as different as possible, carefully picking the materials that go into making each one and intuitively sewing all their parts"

Favourite Ceramicist of the Day

One of my favourite ceramic artist i subcribe to is a woman by the name of Marie- Louise Sundqvist from Sweeden. Her pieces are handmade by her and her adorable illustrations are then added..There is something so innocent and childlike about her work it it cant help but bring a smile to you..When people sometime think of the word childlike to decribe something they quiet often assume something messy or badly made but i don't think that is so especially with this work..to me it is a way of expression that is playful and interesting and just not taking itself too seriously..There no need for explanation with this..you take it as it is and what it is, is magical:)
